Der Dorfkern von St. Märgen liegt 4 km vom Haus Waldeck entfernt und ist über verschiedene Wanderweg-Routen zu erreichen, von denen jede ihre besonderen Reize hat. Die Variante über den Höhenkamm (oberhalb der Schwarzwald- Panoramastraße) lässt sich über St. Märgen hinaus 7 km fortsetzen bis St. Peter. (Dieses und das nächste Foto wurden 15 Gehminuten vom Haus Waldeck entfernt aufgenommen.)

The village centre of St. Märgen is 5 km far from Haus Waldeck. You get there on different routes, each of them with own attractions. The one on the ridge can be continued another 7 km beyond St. Märgen (the line ist above the Black Forest Scenic Route) and comes down to the village of St. Peter. (This and the following photo were taken after a walk of 15 minutes.)

Im Winter verläuft hier die Langlauf-Verbindungsloipe von St. Märgen zum Thurner.

Hikers, nordic walkers, mountain bikers, and, of course, horse riders: all of them share the route along the ridge.
In winter, the cross-country ski trail from St. Märgen to Thurner runs along this trail.

Entlang der Schwarzwald-Panoramastraße bieten sich immer wieder neue Ausblicke auf die Kirchtumsspitzen von St. Märgen. Im Herbst und im Winter hat das Tiefland oft Wolken und Nebel, während die Bergwelt aus den Wolken ragt und man bei Sonne und blauem Himmel atemberaubende Ausblicke auf das Nebelmeer hat. Diese Inversions-Wetterlagen dauern oft etliche Wochen und bringen mit trocken-warmer Luft einen Hauch von Frühling auf die Gipfel.

Driving along the "Black Forest Scenic Route" (Schwarzwald- Panoramastraße), there will be again and again new sights at the twin spires of the church of St. Märgen. In autumn and winter the lowlands often are cloud covered, whereas the mountains rise above the clouds. Sunshine and blue sky will give you a spectacular view of the sea of fog. Atmospheric inversions like this often take some weeks and give with dry and warm air a touch of spring to the mountain tops.
